Granny's gone and done it again

Just like breeding anything to a specific standard, sometimes you get some that don't make the cut. About 30% hatch with color, and another 30% after that develop color in maturity. It's really difficult to get the all black. Lots of culls.

10 pages & 300 posts behind. Been baking pumpkins. Raw seeds chopped in blender & given to chickens. Pumpkin-pecan bread baking. 6 quart bags put in freezer for holiday pies. Oh yeah i ate some with butter & brown sugar. Im pooped. Dh wont be happy with tuna salad sandwiches but oh well.

Are theroosters friendly?


Depends on what you mean by friendly. They're not lap birds and they don't like being handled, but they're not aggressive that I've seen. They're very smart; I used food to catch one and now I can't do that anymore. :lol: They're very predator savvy and excellent in a flock. I had a young one that would accompany a pullet to her "secret" nest and stand guard while she laid, then he would escort her back. And they're not huge, so they're not too heavy for the hens.

Edit to add: I have lots living peacefully right now, too. So they're not overly aggressively with other birds. They squabble a bit, but nothing serious. They usually work it out themselves.
