Granny's gone and done it again

no they read old yellow and he had to write in the moms perspective. 3 questions . I dont know what they were.
Lot of times when kids are really good at one subject it is at the expense of another. #1 is good with English and writing... he does fine, but math is more a struggle for him, especially tests. #2 has no trouble with math, but used to struggle with English class. He seems to be doing fine in both know, but during middle school, I think he failed a quarter in English.

Had more to do with him not liking the teacher. Lot of questions are geared more toward girls' strengths. Think about a young boy having to write from the mother's point of view. Much harder for a boy to do, generally. And then the questions are often touchey-feely, which my boys are very uncomfortable writing about. Anything that starts with How did you feel?... about the story are questions they hate. I told them to write a fictional answer from a fictional person.... Lie lie lie! Teacher does not need to know their innermost feelings. Bullpucky!

I agree with that!

Old Yeller

You can also help him by reading the books with him and talking about the story. At that age, my guys didn't have the experience to relate to what they were reading and they missed the meaning behind a lot of stuff if it wasn't literal. And the stories chosen by teacher to read are never literal. But, ask them to explain a scientific concept, no problem! They would get an A for sure. Teachers rarely ask about scientific concepts either. I hate that their writing and reading ability is judged based solely on subjective literary works. Expressing one's ideas is what's important. How often in your adult life have you had cause to write an essay about a story that someone else wrote??? People complain about Algebra for that very reason, but English classes are a bigger waste of time, in my opinion, and you need 4 years of English to graduate. They should teach writing composition first and foremost, and the literature classes should be more elective choice, like math and science.

Can you tell this is a real sore point with me?

Liberal Arts majors run the schools and universities and stress what they are comfortable with, but liberal arts majors do not develop technologies and advancements in agriculture and energy resources. We got a lot of lawyers out there, but not enough soil scientists. Emphasis in schools should be more equal.
