Lot of times when kids are really good at one subject it is at the expense of another. #1 is good with English and writing... he does fine, but math is more a struggle for him, especially tests. #2 has no trouble with math, but used to struggle with English class. He seems to be doing fine in both know, but during middle school, I think he failed a quarter in English.

Had more to do with him not liking the teacher. Lot of questions are geared more toward girls' strengths. Think about a young boy having to write from the mother's point of view. Much harder for a boy to do, generally. And then the questions are often touchey-feely, which my boys are very uncomfortable writing about. Anything that starts with
How did you feel?... about the story are questions they hate. I told them to write a fictional answer from a fictional person.... Lie lie lie! Teacher does not need to know their innermost feelings. Bullpucky!
