Granny's gone and done it again

Cochins are lovely birds!

Not sure where in Ohio you are but the Central Indiana Poultry Show (Lebanon IN) is in the fall each year and I know at least the year I attended (2015) they were a National Meet for the Ameraucana Alliance - there were TONS of great Ameraucana there and lots of folks looking to sell stock.  MPC is about the worst place to try to source your birds as they are more "boutique" *and* a middle man vs. the actual hatchery so you are really getting your birds from Meyer, etc anyway, just paying extra because MPC is willing to act as the middle man and ship smaller quantities, etc than the large hatcheries they source through in the first place......so not only are you getting hatchery quality, but you are paying more than you would by going straight through the hatchery to begin with.  Or, of course, the Ohio Nationals since you are right there in Ohio...but sometimes the smaller shows give you a better chance to pick up stock and get real face time with breeders of the birds you are looking to get your hands on.

That's what I've heard! I was going to get Mille Fluer's, but decided on Cochins instead. :)

Lebanon is just about the same drive length Columbus is for us. :) We are in Bowling Green, OH, so a few hours to each place. Thank you for this information! I've heard MPC's birds are pretty bad show quality wise, but never knew about them being a "middle man". We are thinking about getting our birds from Eagle's Nest Poultry in Ohio....they're supposed to have show quality birds and they have been recommended from some of our "showing friends". They just don't have mottled Cochins so I'm thinking of starting out with Black Cochins and getting Mottled ones in a few years. I have heard ON's are HUGE and the birds get bought soon! Again, thanks so much for this info!

relapse bummer. I now have to deal with my back, having spent the last 24 hrs + on my arse. It will be looking for any excuse to go out on me.

how old is the pup now? still not trustworthy in the house? I was watching a show about dogs that sense medical problems in people. maybe when Bandit barks at you he is telling you your sugar is low or something. or maybe he's being a butt.

I think he is around 6 months. not sure . He dont mess the house. He is pretty good if left alone too but he wants to sleep where the other dogs are. With me. CB wants him to sleep with him. So they both slept in the crate last night on top of the bed. LOL
He literally barks all day ! Thats the biggest fault I can find with him. He gets on everyones nerves doing that.

Rained all day yesterday & still raining this am. Didn t get chickens fed til 4:30 yesterday. They were outa feed & water. May not get many eggs because of that

Well, that settles it, now I *have* to get CCL -- I showed DH and he said no because they "look silly", no better way to guarantee I do/get something than tell me no, lol. Serve him right if I get a whole flock of them. It's funny, the thing I love about them, the crest, is what he doesn't like.

Tom too, thats the ONLY thing he has ever said about my chickens . He hates the crest and they dont even look like a chicken. Maybe thats why I have tried so hard ! hahaha
