Ah gotcha. Why do they not have pretty bird shows? We have a whole barn at our fair just for birds. It use to be rabbits AND birds.

we are a big city...I have no idea why..

this is not the "country" were chickens are normal...you know what I mean?

We would also have to buy our chicks from a certain place at a certain time...in order to show meat birds..
Its a joke compared to what I hear/read about other states.

He can't show chickens til he is in 8th grade here

8th grade? 8TH GRADE!? That's crazy! I'm upset for him! And to only be able to have meat chickens

Kids here at our fair can show whatever as long as they are 8 or 3rd grade. I seen a little girl in 3rd grade show a market steer. She was so tiny she looked like she should have been in 1st grade!

I think the only time when we didn't have anything other than meat chickens was when the bird flu was around. And once we wasn't even allowed birds on the fair ground.

I wonder if the "meat only" show chickens will ever change around here...thats the way it has always been..
Texas is HUGE and I can easily, well not SO easily, drive across the state into a smaller more country-fied city and find other types of chicken shows...
It would just mean being in the car with birds for 6 plus hours one way...NOT gonna happen.

Its ok...he is learning all about chickens here in our yard.
