Morning all . Im so far behind I'm not even gonna try to catch up. All the chicks are doing great. I can't hardly hold the duck for one of the chicks running into my hands wanting to be held.

Betcha that chick is going to be a cockerel!!!

Morning, off to the eye vet with 9 puppies. This should be fun. 100 degrees today.

Heat wave!! Supposed to be over 100 here for the next 5 days AT LEAST! It was already 75 at 8:00 this morning.

#3 does have nice ears and solid looking bones. One of the BEAUTIFUL THINGS about the FIELD line of springers is looks, body confirmation are way down the line of things to look for. The field line is all about ability, brains, desire to please, performance in the field. Basically what a springer should be or originally was bred for instead of trying to measure/fit into the current standard of beauty.

Did you all know that in the beginning both Springers and Cocker spaniels came from the same litters and what they were called was based on height alone.

im just feeding it chick starter. Going to tsc tomorrow though. Gonna see if I should feed it something else. I've heard that they need something else that the chick feed don't have in it. Can't remember what it is though

Consensus from last night is that Flock Raiser is the best... has the stuff that the duckling needs and the chicks can eat it. I feed it to my Seramas since I have a rooster and don't want him to eat the extra calcium that's in layer feed. Purina makes the Flock Raiser.

Good morning! It's going to be hot for a week and I'm going to be doing some serious whining, so apologies in advance.

A month or so ago, wonderful hubs got me an auto door opener for the layer coop. It is the coolest thing! I love it. This last week, we have been greeted every morning with the deranged sounds of one of my hens... imagine a singing chicken trying to imitate a very loud goose and you've got the idea. What the heck is wrong with her, I keep wondering. Well, dopey me has the auto opener on a timer, rather than the light sensor, so with the sun rising earlier, she has to wait a lot longer before being released from the run. Oh my! A rooster makes less noise than that hen! There are 2 others that will chime in as well. Going to reset it to open earlier, just as soon as I find the instructions!

Off to clean house and shop for the Father's Day Indoor Picnic Extravaganza. That means no cooking, only cold dishes. Some reheating in the microwave may be allowed. No AC here means the house will get up to about 85 on these hot days, so it's a great excuse for me to not have to cook! See ya later if I haven't melted!

wishing I was thinking the same thing about the chick probably being a roo. Oh so you have a hen that imitates a goose too. Henrietta use to do that. Funniest thing I've ever heard. We had geese that would fly over every morning and she would hollar at them. She actually got pretty good at sounding like one.

Hi all, another rough start to my day. Robert woke up in great pain. I got crones out of him and when asked 1-10 he said 9. other then that he wont talk. I called GI dr. and hoping to hear something soon. Probably end up at er. I need air in my van so badly. Tom up all night. says he just cant sleep. I need to go out and open the barn up and if its as hot as I think I might need to turn the kittys loose so they can stay cool. I dont know what else to do with them. They were panting yesterday.

I am about to get a potty mouth on another thread. There are some rude people on this site! I know I don't know everything about chickens and most I've learned from this site. Actually pretty much everything other than the basic food, water and heat. But there's no reason to be nasty about it.

Can't catch up. Had to put handle bars, tines, & guards on tiller. Storm yesterday bout destroyed my polish pen. Bent 1 of the top bars so wire across top & tarp are sagging. This is the 3rd side of the dog kennel I've had to reinforce with a piece of rebar. Trees down across our road. Didn't get to f Ed or pick up eggs. 18 in the nests ths am.
