Good morning everyone! Hubs and I are heading up to MILs for a visit. His sis is leaving for a few days and his brother is visiting from Maui again and will fill in care duties while she is gone.
I am still confused about my Australorp "pullet." Spike is 12 weeks now and huge, has a largish pale pink comb and largish wattles that are red. S/he has looked this way since about 5 weeks old. No signs of male feathering, still has mildly suspicious cockerel-esque behavior. Has anyone ever had a cockerel not be completely red at 12 weeks? I never have, and last night I took a good look at Spike when they were resting before bed and the comb/wattles were very pale... no red at all, barely pink. It is confusing. To make it worse, I could hear that one of the chicks is going through a voice change. Someone out there was making a deeper croaking noise... If Spike is a pullet, she's going to be ruler of the layer mob, very dominant. If Spike is a cockerel, he's anemic!
