Evacuations Lifted in Southern California; Canyon 2 Fire 60 Percent Contained
Oct 11, 2017 at 9:00 AM

Evacuations have been lifted in Southern California, where firefighters are beginning to get a handle on the Canyon 2 Fire burning in the hills east of Anaheim.

The fire exploded in size Monday into Tuesday, growing from 800 to more than 7,500 acres in less than 24 hours, overrunning numerous structures and forcing the evacuations of more than 5,000 homes.

As of Wednesday evening the fire had topped 8,000 acres, but was 60 percent contained and no longer threatening Anaheim neighborhoods, Anaheim Fire and Rescue said in a statement.

The blaze destroyed or damaged at least 24 structures, including homes, according to Anaheim Fire & Rescue and prompted officials to evacuate 5,000 homes and shut down freeways in the area, ABC7.com reports. At least five homes along Canyon Heights Drive took on flames. Most freeways have since been reopened.

"It came so fast you couldn't even grab anything,” resident Eric Schmidt told the Los Angeles Times.

Several elementary schools had to be evacuated and several regional parks have been closed due to the blaze, according to the Times.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz told the Orange County Register that the fire was first reported around 9:40 a.m. Monday off of the 91 Freeway.

The blaze is being fought by more than 1,100 firefighters and several helicopters and airplanes brought in to help. At least one firefighter has been injured.

Just a quick bounce in as heading tot he farm to pick/bag taters.

Just had a guy call me about this years calves. :yesss: He had called earlier this year BUT to be honest I discouraged hem from getting one of the yearling as he has small children. SO, he is thinking a couple maybe more. He specifically asked about heifer's so unfortunately Granola would be in the mix of for sales. :( NOT that I want to BUT if that is what it is going to take to move 1 or 2 bulls at this point in time that is what I will have to do.

So was cleaning and re-stocking the shelves in the root celler and found apple sauce from 2006. NOT much still looks fine:confused:

Wishing will continue to keep you and the entire area in my prayers.
