If he is cold when he gets into bed and it takes a long time for him to warm up, you might want to consider an electric blanket or at least use a heating pad to help him out.
Blankets only trap the heat we produce, and if he's not producing heat, he won't be warm. It's like putting a blanket on a ice cube! The ice cube isn't going to make any heat.
