Granny's gone and done it again

hahaaa... hubs did the hard stuff. I washed the lettuce and cut up veggies. Rest was self serve.

From what I've seen, they are a dark brown egg with a heavy layer of bloom on the outside that gives them a purple tinge. mauve? My Australorps lay a similar egg, but lighter brown under all the bloom, so they have a pinkish look. When the bloom gets wet, the eggs look more like regular brown.

You're not a weenie. Barn swallows will absolutely dive bomb you during nesting season if they think you are a threat. Ours didn't usually go after people, but the cats! whoohoo It was like watching WWII out there, with the birds dive bombing the cats. They would make contact too, smack on the head! Cats usually went for cover when that happened.
With the barn swallows and bats darting about i wasnt sure if I could do it but then i figured out their schedule. At dusk I would open the curtains of my big livingroom curtain and watch the bats swoop out from under the roof.

Joeys girlfriend took over cooking dinner. God bless her soul...
Lucky you! I hope one of my boys finds someone who will take over in the torture chamber for me!

Hi Linda! :frow Good to see you back! :hugs

I’ve heard they see more than we do. Ultraviolet is the next spectrum?
Ohhh, like bees. Now I have a new research topic. Yes, ultraviolet wavelengths are just slightly shorter than violet, which is the limit for people.

Yeah.. We have the barn swallow sanctuary here.. We had 3 nest that produced chicks all summer long. Now i just need to get use to the preditors... Coyotes, bears and minx.. Among the common other ones.. And a billion Eagles and hawks
Sounds wonderful! You will have to outwit all those chicken eaters. They are black bears, I hope. Pretty timid, that type.

I wish I could send them all to you. Luckily they havent attacked like the hawks do.. The Chehalis river is right behind our property.. Lots of different birds. Devin and i spend too much time trying to figure out what they are in our bird books but it is fun.
Far as I know, bald eagles mostly hunt fish from the water. They might take other game if it's easy or near the water, but your chickens will probably be safe from them.
