I dont like the sex links for a very different reason. I dont want to know as soon as they hatch if its a rooster and just cull a new baby.

and even then out of the 25 I ordered I still got a MALE, although truth be told one of the nicest roo's I have ever had around here.

is there really any difference between getting wacked at birth or 40 days (like the store chicken and fast food chicken) who NEVER see the sun or feel grass.

I did something dumb. I cleaned the large brooder for possible 4 chicks. Too big , they will wander away from the heat. So now when I do go out I will need to clean /disinfect the smaller one .

and are packed in to about 15 birds for every 9 square feet, and can't walk are culled for the simplest reasons.

I’d rather know. I hate finding out weeks later that there’s 1 pullet and 15 cockrels lol

couldn't you just block off part of the large brooder with a piece of cardboard ???

I dont know if it makes a differce to the chickens or not it does me and isnt that why we raise our own? So they dont live in those conditions ?

yep. BUT then most of us also just want/buy pullets so we are still contributing to that practice.
