I can’t drink whiskey with people on site. Think I can put a bit of apple cider vinegar in my honey tea to help cut this sinus crap? @Akrnaf2

I’m born and raised (literally own the house I grew up in, three blocks from the house my husband grew up in), and I still find it too hot in the summer! We are planning for land up north a bit.Hi, welcome. My sis-in-law lives in Tempe. Kind of hot in the summer, but I'm a weather wimp. How do people keep their chickens cool? Australorps are great, by the way.
My dad took up the pipe when he quit smoking. Lasted a couple of weeks, thank goodness. Super stinky. Other than that he went cold turkey.
aw, you know he loves it!
You are going to become the crazy bunny lady!![]()
I think he should have his locks spun and sent to me for knitting!I think he should have his locks braided, Twist.![]()
I'm sure there's a way. Try to right click and see if a delete option comes up.Mornings, No sleep . Just laid there for a while . That link , the last one here put a link up on my computer next to BYC and FB. No clue how to get rid of it.
Haha that’s actually why I wanted a Lorp so bad this go around. I’m near San Diego - we don’t get near as hot as you Arizona folks but still hit the triple digits. Wanted to see if we had a bird who could laugh at the sunI’m born and raised (literally own the house I grew up in, three blocks from the house my husband grew up in), and I still find it too hot in the summer! I know we are going to use fans, an evaporative cooler, large ice blocks in their water, and my husband mentioned a plan for some sort of chicken cooler (I didn’t question him further... so who knows what that means?!).
I gave my husband a bunch of breeds to choose from based on the research I had done, and he chose the Black Australorps because he likes their colors. I’m okay with that!![]()
The black Lorps have the most beautiful green iridescence on their feathers, and big dark eyes. They are pretty friendly too.I’m born and raised (literally own the house I grew up in, three blocks from the house my husband grew up in), and I still find it too hot in the summer! Haha I’m surprised none of my girls are hollering at me.The black Lorps have the most beautiful green iridescence on their feathers, and big dark eyes. They are pretty friendly too.
I have a large grapefruit tree, very shady, with branches to the ground. On hot days, soaking the ground underneath drops the temp about 10 degrees.
People in the central valley put up misters for their flocks. That with a fan in the shade might be good.
If the birds are from a local breeder, they might have heat resistance bred in.
Spike, my Lorp, is outside right now hollering at me because it's raining.
Oops, Spike is no longer outside. She keeps coming in the garage.![]()
Sounds like you're doing a good job. I hear of people losing chickens when it gets into the triples.Haha that’s actually why I wanted a Lorp so bad this go around. I tend to just turn one of their dust baths into a mud pit, give them access to shade and they get their big warerer of course but their smaller waterer gets electrolytes in it.
I’ve had some people scoff at me doing this (they’re not sick they don’t need it they don’t sweat) but honestly. At those temps anything to keep them hydrated and such. When they’re in heat distress...(which I so far have managed to avoid. There has been hot. Panting. Wings out. But they haven’t gotten to the point yet of needing intervention *knock on wood*)
