cover/protect the bulb . Hardware cloth or she makes a box .

so do we and they will still get/jump up there and bump that bulb.
Oh, if that's what happens, I have it placed up high where they can't reach. Never had a problem, but I worry about the fire danger...
 
I have a rabbit cage on short legs. I took the bottom tray out leaving a good gap on the floor. about 6inches. I took the protective wire off and wired it to the top of the cage. They can go under or through the open door into the cage and get warm. The big ones can not. so it keeps the littles warm and they dont get smooshed. Ingenious .

you can take some hardware cloth and just bend it around the opening. anything breaks it aint going anywhere.

If its too high it wont help w heat, No place in a coop they cant reach and better safe then sorry.

oh and I also put a flat brick on top of the cage that gets warm right next to the light where bigger chickens can sit and warm up. The bricks keep them from pooping on the littles under them.
