Even here, where is doesn't get much below freezing, they set up warming shelters for people without power. I would think you'd have a lot of storm related deaths without shelters... or really full ERs.

Yes. I was trying to figure the difference between the Catahoulas and pits, since there seems some overlapping in what folks think they are. Hunting type is pretty different from bully dogs, but size and strength are in common. Not much else, really, except a wide range of size and shape for both "breeds." Love the coloring for the Catahoulas.

wind is picking up and we have about 2-3 inches down already. Its supposed to be bitter cold. We have salvation army w/ a few beds. Thats all I know of and thats for homeless.

Hunting or herding, but they’re rough. Around here they use them for hogs, and I think it’s the same baiting technique that bully breeds used. I’ve read that in herding they don’t give a hard eye, like collies, but they work as a pack to bark and push animals in the right direction.

They used Ridgebacks here for boar hunting. That's how my mom got our last one. Someone heard that she had had them before and were looking for a home for a year old female. Only interest they had was from a man who wanted her for hunting, so mom took her. Dog was not socialized, so it took a bit of work to get her to be part of the family, but a good dog after that. You don't see many Ridgebacks around any more... they were really popular in the 70s and 80s.

Well,I finally caught up with my own technology! Been having this phone since a little before Christmas and now realize that it has a mobile hot spot and I can now use my laptop again. We don't have internet in the house, so have been making due with my smart phone. Now we can use the printer here instead of sending emails to Office Depot!!!
