Granny's gone and done it again

He's doing fine. I catch him staring longingly out the window... He flaps and vibrates his wings, walks around a lot. Can a butterfly get bored?
Research says they eat sap from oak trees. We have loads of those, but not sure how they go about getting sap. They occasionally eat over-ripe fruit... apples or pears. I have an extremely ripe pear, scrape off a little pear goo with a spoon and drip some water on it. I see him slurping on it. That's another male trait... they will drink from puddles.
maybe he needs a friend ?

He's going to have to make do with just me!

did you know they needed salt ? Ya, she was pretty smart in nature. She grew up watching them I guess. No tv . I didnt have one either when I lived in the hills
It's not salt as much as minerals that they need. Minerals in the rain forest are scarce, so they gather at those spots. Or they drink tears!

uh oh , I think I have converted a few on this thread. Still working on a few. LOL
Is your DH much older then you ? What kind of coop are you going with?
Fish are every bit as addictive as chickens. I knew I was in trouble when I started going to fish shows and being a fangirl for getting the autograph of my favorite fish author at the time - and breaking speed limits across state lines with boxes of fish :) But with 4 dogs, 7 cats, 10 chickens, an organic market garden and soapmaking, not sure where fish would fit in anymore. :(

Hubs is 9 years older than me, something I think more about now that my 40 has turned 50 and his 50, 60. Especially with the current virus and prexisting conditions. He isn't as cautious about health as I am, but then I'm the one more likely to run my mouth, so maybe it comes out even? :)

We looked at a lot of coop styles before building this one (still married at the end!). Most of the commerical commercial ones we looked at realistically held maybe 4 chickens and weren't made very well. I liked the predator security (we have everything from bobcats to hawks, plus my own chicken dog) and I like the 3 large windows for ventilation. Panels on front and back that open down so you can easily sweep out everything when it's time to clean. They seem to be really happy with it so far.
