Whatsa matta with muh chickens? Danged things.. Yesterday I made mini egg noodles and stir fried veggies.. Thought I would be 'nice' and share some with my kids this morning. They all turned their noses up at it! Ingrates!!

Maybe they are afraid to try new things.

Oh yeah, and I worked on digging a drainage ditch in front of the duplex coop. Then as the light was fading, I put up another section of wire on top of the new Serama run. One left to do, then I need to get out the pneumatic stapler and tack the ends onto wood. There are 5 trees in this run, I think I will cut off the one nearest the door.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, okay.. You actually get freezing cold winters up there too, and snow. Something we don't get much of down here. A few cold nights, rarely below freezing. But I do have covers planned for the runs that don't have hen houses in.

But don't feel bad about the egg bomb. Last year I was cleaning out the nesting boxes and found an egg buried in a corner under all the bedding material. Had no idea how long it had been there, I picked it up, got it outside and POW! It went off in my hand. Talk about a stink a stink a stink! I don't know how many times I washed my hands to get the smell off but boy oh boy it was memorable.

That sure taught me a lesson.

Yeah, don't pick it up with your hand. Gloves or plastic bag over it. Takes ages for that smell to leave.

Happy to know another great fact... Well, I keep the hen boxes cleaned out. I think SP was doing it for me.. Caught her eating an egg this morning. It was either a bad egg, or Mollie laid it in her spot and she weren't none too happy 'bout that.
Speaking of SP and Mollie.. SP is top hen in her run, or so she thought.. She was kinda picking on Mollie, but Henri likes Mollie a lot. Mollie is stuck to Henri like glue now. When SP went after Mollie this morning, Henri took matters into his own 'well, something', and ran SP away. Guess he likes the meeker milder Mollie.

I worried about that, but it seems the only one that was eaten.. maybe it broke in the nest or something.. She's not broody still, so I'll pull her eggs out tomorrow when I clean the barrel out.. Danged birds poo in it and it gets awful.

I don't think you got enough done... just kidding.. Why don't you put up some flood lights and keep working? I'll watch.
