Granny's gone and done it again

anyone make lamb? Recipes I read say to pan sear it and serve med. to rare and the package says sear it then pop it in the oven. Im confused.
cook it just like a roast---season with s/p and pan sear on all sides--it seals in the juices and adds flavor. Finish in oven until 150 temp. Let it rest 10-15 min before slicing

I dont have a thermometer .
