Granny's gone and done it again

Granny, we do it all the time. We are lucky to have a postage scale from our business so we are able to weigh our packages, then look on line for size and weight at the USPS site. Once we figure that out, we mark it on the package where the postage goes, write a check to postmaster and put it on, in or hanging on our mailbox. They pick it up for us, and if we write a check for too much or don't give them enough money they let us know and we make it right with them if necessary.

We live rural 8 miles from the nearest town of 1300 people so they know us but ask your mail carrier.
That won’t work here. Love the rural post offices.

I use the peel and cores for jelly.
Chickens get ours. They LOVE those peelings. Tonight I sorted through the apples and found about 4 that were bad. Wonderful thing is that the chickens don't mind the bad rotten spots. Easier to peck a hole in them and they love the fruit no matter how wrinkled up it is.

I would love some apple turnovers. My mom made them from canned biscuits . I made the icing . Drool..
I used to buy the frozen ones. They made them with puff pastry. They were yummy. Let me google the name.

Pixie and I are loving the view tonight.

Stunning view.

You can also go online and pay for postage that way, print off the label and stick it to your box.

I grew up in IL city of 35,000. Wouldn't happen there either but the town in Western IL had the best mail service. One day I went into the main office and my finger got caught in the door handle. Popped the diamond out of my ring. The postmaster and clerk saw me on my hands and knees looking for it in the entranceway. They joined in. Soon a couple of customers had joined us. I finally found it in a corner. Wouldn't happen in a big city.

Here our mail carrier is a bit of a piece of work but the ladies who run the post awful are angels. I took in extra eggs for them over the summer months. This past summer with the covid I would leave the eggs in a cooler by the mail box and Useless would pick them up for them. I would offer him eggs and he would turn them down but the girls would tell me that he would grab a dozen from the ones I sent in for them so I just started adding a couple extra dozen for him.

Aren't people a hoot?

That’s what I love about chickens. We never throw out food anymore.

I'm going to have to try to cut back more on the sugars. I'm good about giving myself a stop date and sticking to it. I did that when I went on my diet two years ago and dropped 30 pounds fast by eliminating junk food and things like bread.

Perhaps I'll set a date between Christmas and New Years and that will be my 'cut back date'. I don't use sugar in things like Tea or Coffee but I do use Stevia and sweet n low. I know they can impact your blood sugars but I consider them to be the lesser of the evils. No problem giving up candy. Already done that. Cookies will be tough. I'll probably scale back and allow myself a day when I 'indulge' within reason. Not going to eat a half gallon of ice cream or anything of the sort but allow myself a couple of cookies or whatever and see if it impacts my joint pain any.

As bad as my DDD is, anything that helps reduce the inflammation is a blessing as far as I'm concerned.

And on a bright spot. I already found a couple of cookie recipes calling for apple sauce for sweetening instead of sugar. I have about 2/3rds of a bushel of apples in our shop right now. Guess I gots to make me some applesauce.
If you can give up try it for 30 days. See if you feel better. I wouldn’t do it around the holidays. Bad news is fruit has sugar. I only eat small amount of berries.
