Back before there was cat litter, people used dirt, gravel, and or sand. Some used sawdust as well. Any thing they can dig in, they will poop in.

not really. But there are creeks around here they call rivers, that have sand beds.

Granny, that can be stray cats, skunks, dogs, raccoons, just about anything.

Detroit had the best black toxic dirt. It would grow anything in. This dirt is so hard and compact that when you plant a tree the roots just grow in a circle around the hole you dig.

I thought it might be my cat but they are HUGE dog poops and the smell is horrid.

I just had a thought. That was probably where they came up with clumping litter. Clay that got wet. LOL

That is like here and parts of Lake Erie area. But there is also lots of fertile black soil in that area as well. Remember, that area used to be "the Black Swamp" until they drained it.
