Granny's gone and done it again

New to this thread and going to jump in. I have had dogs all my life. My favourite was one I adopted from Humane Society when she was 3 years old and a fat tub of a dog. She had a German Shepherd base but there must have been lots of other contributors to her family tree. When someone asked about her I would say she was a Pure Bred Canadian. They usually looked confused and changed the subject.
3 months ago I adopted an 18 months old German Shepherd. He is the 5th shepherd I have owned. Previous owners returned him to breeder after deciding he was not an ideal apartment dog. Really - what were they thinking? Anyway, it has been like adopting a toddler who has a heart of gold but no manners. Professional training help is really paying off.
Welcome to Granny's!

Oh yes, but I want it as a choice for when you "like" a post.

I think he's got poodle. He was a stray.
Scooter says hi!

That's my favorite reptile! They are so cool. Seems like a lot to take care of properly.

I met several of h2oratts' dogs last week. I think they are like poodles on steroids... a little more muscular, little more active. Very nice dogs. But too much hair for me. Scooter is my first and last long haired dog. I am looking into Whippets!
Yes, Chameleons really need sunlight and humidity.

Ahahaha! Another purebred Canadian! ;) hang on I’ll post a pic of peach in a bit....loved that girl (nuts to you cancer)
What a grand assumption from somebody who doesn't know anything about me or my dog. He was socialized. he went everywhere with me. everything from a young age was fun, meet a new person? treats and play, oh so fun. I closely followed Ian Dunbar's approach to training.

His genetic predisposition to anxiousness is like a collies genetic predisposition to herd. Unstoppable... Manageable.. but unstoppable
I didn’t read that as a fault on you...socializing needs to begin right away...from the mom, from the breeder, even before they go home. Ok reading it sounds like the pups were in a foster situation but even then...
Good. Yeah much better for their health to not be neutered so young but shelters have rules. Of course now days very hard to find anything in a shelter but pit bulls and chihuahuas
Yep. Pitts for days here.

Nice and clean and fluffy.
Yes, with my terrible scissors haircut.

Is he aggressive? My dog as a kid was aggressive. He was dumped at the county fair. Prob only 5 weeks old. I knew nothing about socializing.
Scooter was a stray. Showed up here 10 years ago... lean, muscular little un-neutered ruffian who promptly and fearlessly took on my 85lb Newfie cross (Belle). Belle was the one unsocialized, from a litter of pups taken from mom at 5 wks and dumped at a shelter. Had I known what damage that does, I would not have taken her. Belle had terrible social skills, was dominant but fearful. Scooter showing up, being all macho and fearless, but very appropriate, was the best thing that could have happened to her. She calmed down quite a bit and was much less nervous at the vet when Scoot came with her.

Scooter has pretty good social skills, and he LOVES kids, but will not back down if a dog challenges him, no matter how big. He has barked and growled while leashed, but it's always over a problem dog. Most dogs he exchanges sniffs perfectly. He never starts a fight, but he will be dominant. He's older now, more mellow. My sister has a Yorkie cross from a hoarding situation. She's high energy and a bit crazy. Scooter sits on her and blocks her movements to try to control her in our house. Outside, she runs rings around him, poor old guy, but he did teacher her to allow to be sniffed. He's a pretty great dog and I can't take any credit as he was a young adult when he showed up. We neutered him asap, but he was full grown and full of hormones!
