Granny's gone and done it again

My husband and my allergies won't allow us to have carpeting. We did vinyl planking throughout. I'm just as glad. With the dirt and hair load from our wood stove plus the animal hair and the regular old farm dirt I would be pulling my hair out from vacuuming and cleaning it.

I think you will like that color, Cynthia. It's very pretty but then I thought the rose carpet was unique.
Old and crusty roses. :(

More to why that carpet had to go. It got pretty bad. :(

A little story...

On Friday I hurried home from shopping after hubs texted to say my dad needed help, family emergency. Dad was here when I got home, and he told me my brother called from jail  saying he got arrested for a bad traffic accident (reckless endangerment) and to call a number to talk to his lawyer to arrange bail before he got transfered to county jail and in case the pregnant driver of the other car lost her baby (bail would be higher) and the charge would go to manslaughter. The lawyer also told dad my brother did not want any other family members to know what happened. Good thing my dad isn't worried about following other people's rules. But he was freaked out and ready to go withdraw a bunch of money from the bank, after which he would call the lawyer back for directions where to bring it.
My BS detector was on high alert hearing all this. Did you try to call your son, dad? Nope. So I did that, but no answer at work or home, which was very unusual. Hmmm. How much is the bail money. At first they said $15,000, but lowered it (twice) when dad said he didn't have access to that much. Ummm, you know dad, that's not really how bail works. Yeah, he thought it was suspicious, and even told the guy it sounded like a scam. And the guy reacted by getting mad and saying he's doing all this to try to help, blah blah.
I asked dad if he was really sure that he actually talked to my brother. He said it was hard to tell, he (brother) was very emotional and the connection was bad. Hmmm
So, I drove dad to the police station, but they aren't allowed to tell us if someone is in custody, which I find very odd. But the "lawyer" had given dad a case # which I showed to the very unhelpful officer asking if she could look it up. She said it's not a case #. Okay then, we are dealing with a scam for sure. And finally my brother called back. He was home sick and had been asleep, so he's not in jail, didn't crash the car and didn't kill anyone's baby.

But these creeps were slick. They got dad thinking he had to hurry and get things done quickly, the stakes were high, and to do it alone. The name the "lawyer" was an actual guy in our town (hubs looked it up on Linked In while they were waiting for me to get home). But of course anyone can use someone's name.

I'm glad we were here to help dad. He's no dummy, but he is getting older and a little slower. It's why the scammers choose older people to prey on. They get them to think it's an emergency, throw them off balance, and take advantage. If you have older folks in your life, share this scammer story and remind them to ask for help if anyone starts asking them for help! And be super suspicious if the help is in the form of cash.

Grr! So glad you were there to help your dad. These scammers! May they rot!

Your poor dad. I bet he was scared to death. If the cops had done their job they would have met this "lawyer" and arrested him posing as your dad.
Plus Robert sezs, The government has to tell you who is in jail as part of public service, and them not telling you is a denial of services lawsuit.

Yes, I thought so too about them having to release the info, but not sure. There is probably some loop hole. My sis can ask her neighbor (cop).

That "lawyer" was never going to call back after I tried calling him. He gave no info, only I'm not here, leave a message. Definitely not a lawyer. And it was a number from central CA, over 5 hrs away.

Also, that guy gave dad a bunch of instructions about needing a document sized envelope for legal papers, blah blah. I bet it was to drop off or mail the cash somewhere.

@Cynthia12, that new carpet looks like it will match your dogs very nicely! 😉 And I am totally wowed by your daughter's skills, those bags and things are amazing! She is creative and skilled! I hope she can market her items and make some good money at it.

@Wishing4Wings, when people are so hateful as to attempt extortion on the elderly ... it just makes my blood boil.:duc :smack So glad you spotted the red flags and saved your dad from being ripped off! :woot
