Granny's gone and done it again

Resident emergency medic (for our farm and any friends that get themselves hurt) here. I agree. That needs to be looked at by a wound specialist. I had a cat bite on the back of my hand that looked a lot like that. It was quite a fight keeping it from getting infected without going to a doc. On the up side of things, I learned from experience long ago that Banixx or Vetericyn work great on human wounds too. You could try that until you get to a doc. Raw, pure honey as well.
I spray vetericyn on all my ailments. Even spray my sore throat.

It seems like Ma dresses a wound on me several days a week that I manage to get one way or another. Usually it is a deep scratch from a rooster's toenails or his beak or possibly his spurs. None were intended by the rooster but in the process of picking them up to move them to a different coop or whatever I get the blood to flowing. She has a drawer full of supplies for all but the worst things like the time one of the pet hens flew up onto my shoulder and when I turned to see which one it was she pecked me in the eye. ER was visited immediately. Wouldn't you know the lady that did my x-ray of the eye had once been hen pecked in her eye too. Small world some days. Then the eye doc (surgeon too) had treated more than one hen pecked eyes before. I just knew when she pecked me I would lose my sight in that eye but all is well now. Not hesitating to get there I believe could have made a big difference.

Problem is, if it's a deep enough puncture wound, it's like injecting bacteria right into your tissue.

One of our cats nailed me with teeth and claws one day when she decided that she wasn't going to get into the carrier. Hand swelled up, had sore lymph nodes in my armpit. It was loads of fun....NOT. She bit to the bone on one of my knuckles and that was the one that caused the trouble.

I agree. Sounds like Blue is fighting cellulitis. If it goes systemic she could find herself taking a vacation at the local hospital. Lot less fun than a weekend on the beach sipping Pina Coladas.

Arthritis sux. The end.

I can't take any of the NSAIDS or any of the prescription meds due to having had a gastric and colon bleed. Only Tylenol and prescription pain medicine. Meanwhile the Osteo marches on. Plus the yet undiagnosed inflammatory arthritis so you have my sympathy and empathy.

Sometimes getting out of bed is a full time job in the mornings.

Howdy all. Summer is back here. In force along with humidity. For awhile I was wondering if the Midwest had forgotten how to throw a good summer. I had a couple of Bandaids on my arms and I actually sweated them off while taking care of the birds this afternoon.

@BigBlueHen53 I'm so glad that you headed for the ER. Frankly, I can't imagine those wounds looking worse. Prayers sent!
I believe arthritis is one of the main reasons they say getting old is not for sissies. :( I'm glad I can take most meds. No Sulfa and none of the penicillin family meds and I'm ok.

I was taking something for my arthritis, but it doesn't mix with steroids. So I quit taking it. Between arthritis and fibromyalgia, I really need to take something. Sometimes it hurts so much that I just want to sleep to avoid the pain. And of course, my energy is low.
So hence my decision to sell the few chickens I have left, and all the goats. I want to start going some places I have always wanted to, but have not because of the animals. Hopefully I will be able to walk enough to go places.

Before any of the surgeries I've had over the last few years they have put me on Celebrex for a few days before to control inflammation without making me bleed like nsaids would. The cost of Celebrex is scary. I don't know what it is now but I'd probably just opt to hurt before paying the deductible now.

My pain management doc wrote my Mobic prescription this time so that on days we shell peas I can take the full dose instead of the half dose I take now for my finger joints that are very arthritic now just like my mothers were.
I'm glad she gave you extra meds for the pain but it's its sad to have arthritic pain even for shelling peas
