Granny's gone and done it again

Thank you! She'll be okay. We've all had it more than once through the years. The white patches on the tonsils are diagnostic so you go in and get a Rx for amoxicillin and you're good to go. Always feels like razor blades in the throat to me. GC never even spikes a fever when she gets it. I do and also ache all over. Haven't had it years. Hope she keeps it to herself, lol!
Can I give you some advice from somebody who has been there done that and learned a valuable lesson the hard way?

In 1976, a year and a half out of nurses training, I contracted a strep throat while working a stent on Pediatrics. 6 months later I was in the hospital for a month and in bed for 5 more months at home thanks to Rheumatic Fever. It was my second strep throat and both times I had taken a full course of Penicillin. After the first bout, I had joint pain and a general flu like feeling that lasted for about 4 months and went away. Didn't think too much of it. I was an active horseback rider and sore joints happen with horseback riding.

The second bout left me with heart damage. I have a damaged mitral valve and take medication for Paroxysmal Atrial Tachycardia and a sinus arrhythmia. I've taken heart medicine since I was 27 years old.

Take strep throats seriously. Even with antibiotics they can be life changers.

Sure hope your kiddos get to feeling better really soon.

When we live up in NW MO in Livingston County we had two bridges collapse one spring when more than the normal amount of ice started moving down stream pushing whole trees along. When the trees built up against the bridge supports the pressure became so great it took the bridges out. One of those bridges cost me a lot of money devaluing a 40 acre block of land. The bridge was never rebuilt making it a long way around to get to the property. It was an old metal bridge.
The closest waterway for us is the Mississippi and it's about 75 miles away. We are just two counties over from where you lived.

I figure the only thing we have to worry about is if and when the New Madrid fault decides to cut loose again and the Old Miss decides to reset her course to the west.

Good grief! Thanks for the heads-up, microchick! I knew strep could have serious consequences like you describe but I figured if we caught it early and took care of it right away we'd be in good shape. What do you recommend we watch out for? My granddaughter is 23 years old and this seems to be a mild case. She has a sore throat but no other symptoms. She didn't complain of that "razor blade in the throat" feeling like I usually get, and she isn't complaining of headache or body ache, either. Just feeling a little under the weather. She thought the sore throat was due to congestion and sinus drainage so she took some Robitussin and gargled with saline yesterday. This morning she looked down her throat and reported the white patches so I said, yup, that's strep! and sent her to urgent care to get a Rx. Her brother is away at academy so she's the only one sick so far. But she's a hugger so ... I may be next, lol.

Missouri, (along with other states, I'm sure!) sent a contingent of linemen to hard-hit areas to get power turned back on as quickly as possible. I know a lot of people are wishing there were some tangible way they could help, but feel that they can't. They can't physically go to the stricken areas, and they may not have means to be able to send funds to help. You can pray. It may not feel like it is much but I assure you, it is like sending waves of power directly to where it is most needed. Pray for courage, for comfort, for peace, to the hearts of the victims of these disasters. Pray for patience, endurance, serenity. They need these things just as surely as they need food, water, shelter and blankets. Send these things. Send light and peace and hope and faith and joy. As you ask, it will be sent. Believe, ask and pray.

My father told the story of how he also contracted rheumatic fever from strep. He was very sick and the Dr. told him he would give him a "kill or cure" shot. I guess it stopped him from having the heart problems you had/have?
