Granny's gone and done it again

Betty had pain again yesterday. I give her half a baby aspirin. She actually needs anti inflammatory pills but for dogs you have to get lab work and just prescription. Fish oil and glucosamine chondroitin aren't working 100% Have to take her back to the vet.
Moist heat packs work better the dry. I microwave water to the boiling point, then put a towel beside the container and microwave again. The towel is steamy warm when it comes out. I wrap it around her when she comes in from a bathroom trip

When I took sulfasalazine I had achy legs when it was cold. The kind of ache that makes you tears. A steamy towel feels dreamy- oh so good!!
Poor betty

Thank you. She won't take the pill pockets. Yesterday I used a teeny bit of peanut butter cup. I make it small enough so she doesn't chew it or it comes back it

I think it's the way the chicken is processed. I bought a bag of chicken breasts recently that must have been harvested from old roosters because that stuff is as tough and stringy as leather. The only way I can chew it is if I marinade it for a few hours.

Morning folks. We went from 50 degrees yesterday to 20 today. I hate January. So cold and miserable. I wish we would get snow over this cold. But the good news is we are half way through the month and February is just two months away from April and spring.

Not much on the agenda today. Diverticulitis is making itself felt any many interesting ways and I can't figure out what I've eaten to make it turn on me so I'm drinking tea, eating soft bland food and waiting for the antibiotics to kick in.

God getting old is a cold hearted witch.

If it takes weeks to get an appointment with your vet for an animal in distress....you need a new vet. IMHO. Our vet does labs for Remadyl but only once a year. I can understand that. It's tough on their livers. I tend to use aspirin a lot, 81mg for small animals and chickens and 325 milligrams for our medium sized cattle dogs and the border collie mixes. I don't overdose and don't let them have it too many days in concession but it works as well as the Remadyl.

We also keep Fish or Bird antibiotics on hand for emergency use until we can get them to a vet. It's simple to find the dosages on line and DH titrates them out for home use. Vet often tells us to use what we have on hand if we want and we do. Living out in the middle of nowhere with animals that like to get themselves hurt during non business hours makes one self sufficient.

Cooking for two is hard. I always seem to have some left overs. I usually reheat things once then it gets tossed in with the dog food. Nothing goes to waste. Meat is the same although I tend to go by the 5 day rule myself as long as it has been refrigerated and not left out on the counter for any length of time. Food is jus too danged expensive anymore not to get your money's worth out of it.

I use bologna or sliced cheese. The trick that works for me is giving them a bite w/o the pill then don't let them see you wrap the pill in another bite. Better for them then chocolate but I have heard different stories about chocolate.
