Granny's gone and done it again

And ... why cubalayas? When and how did you discover them, and why did you pick them to be "your" breed?
I saw them first in a poultry catalog when I was 19. I ordered some along with a few other breeds and they were friendly from day one.
They had a curious friendly disposition with hardly any handling, they weren’t crazy flapping psychotic screaming to wake the dead chickens when we caught them off the roost at night.
Whenever I was out with them in the run or when they free ranged they would come up to me wondering why I was amongst them. They easily ate out of my hands and made great pets.
Now. All of that being said, not all breeder lines are like that, some need a lot of selection to get them to be curious and friendly without being handled much.

Nice, Shrek! People talk about their quail but they don't seem to post a lot of pics. They're really pretty. Why do people have them? Eggs? Meat? To sell? Eye candy, lol?
Thanks!!!!! And mine I got for eggs and then eventually I used them for meat. But they were also eye candy/pets for a while LOL the chickens were pets and for the eggs LOL

Is this about your other leg, Granny?

:hugs I'm so sorry Granny. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be in your shoes.
both legs below the knees and down.
Oh, @microchick, I hate that your little Peanut is having such a hard time. :hugs
But it sounds like your HAM potluck went great! I'm trying to imagine a sour cream choc cake ... must be rich. Don't tempt me, I've had my share of these awful cookies today and am chocolated out for the moment, lol. Never thought I could get so much chocolate I'd be like, please, no more! But that is where I am today.

The fritatta was excellent even though I scorched the bottom, which was a layer of thin-sliced potatoes. That was Melissa's favorite part! 🤣 I gave her mine and she lit up like a Christmas tree, lol. I'd accidentally left a burner on and when I took it out of the oven I put it back on the burner! :lau
they both sound so good to me. I bet your frittata was much better then the way I was showed to make one using tater tots and I didn't like it at all
Those feathers... I love them.

:frowI got 8 hrs sleep last night. Tom stayed in bed but when he seen me he said you were supposed to come get me a long time ago. It was 8am. He seems better today. Makes me happy.

Blue the recipe is here on the home bakers thread on BYC. It is an 'antique' Pennsylvania Dutch/German recipe passed down from my paternal grandmother to my mother. Mom always said it was the only good thing she ever gave her. I reminded her about dad and she repeated the statement. Always a funny response.

It's listed as Mom's Sour Cream Chocolate Cake.
And yeah, it's rich but decadent. Some people say it reminds them of a mayonnaise cake but I think the sour cream one is better. I make home made butter cream frosting for it and used white frosting yesterday to cut down on the richness but I've called it Mom's Death by Chocolate cake at times when I use chocolate frosting and shave chocolate on top of it. OMG is that good. Set a glass of cold milk beside a slice and keep the jug close by and you can eat until you lapse into a coma.
