Granny's gone and done it again

Look here. I went out to gather eggs and I found Moon Shadow, my Ameraucana cockerel, whispering sweet nothings to one of the Black Australorp pullets as she prepared to lay her egg on the coop floor. I've never seen a male do this before, I was quite touched.

I had a buff orpington cockerel who would get into the nesting boxes and wiggle his tail all around to make a proper nest all the while chattering to the watchful pullets whose attention was riveted on him.

Now I have a bantam barnyard cross rooster who will do the same thing only the hens ignore him and drop their eggs in the bedding....go figure.

Well today I separated our two wyandottes from the rest of the flock, and had them free range with our free range rooster. They did really well for the most part, but I did feel sorry for our rooster that is with the main flock and he sat at the end of the run and cried for them. I know it's better for the flock as a whole, but it still made me feel bad!
