Granny's gone and done it again

My Sammy dog (Sheltie) is in the ER waiting to be sedated for "a procedure." The big dummy was chewing on a stick earlier (this is Ryder's fault, he taught them to do this and we live in a freakin' FOREST!) and Melissa noticed he was "struggling." To breathe, apparently. Guess he tried to swallow a piece and it didn't cooperate. I tried sticking my fingers down his throat to see if I could retrieve anything, but he wasn't having any part of that. Since I value my fingers I just had Melissa leash him up and pop him in the car, and off to the vet. He's to have an x-ray which may show nothing ($220) and a sedated down-the-throat exam. I hope they find something, I don't want anything sharp going down and puncturing his guts ($$$urgery!) I don't always think in economical terms, but it is a factor. Dang, if it isn't cars or appliances, it's pets ... sillydog, sticks are for ... kids! Goat kids. Andwe don't have any. 🙄
I remember when dog xrays were $20!!!

When they re-xrayed Pi's leg last week with that and an exam along with three bottles of pills was 178 dollars. We thought we got off pretty cheap since it was almost 500 for the original exam, splint, sedation and meds.

Once again, people are buying insurance for their dogs so up go the prices....really really do not like insurance companies. The Amish guy we bought our farm from said it best...when ya deal with insurance companies the only people who get rich are the insurance companies.

Dogs....worse than kids. Our old cat who is lying beside me right now, swallowed something. Spent hours clawing at her mouth but we couldn't find anything. Both DH and I had H1N1 and sicker than dogs but I was just getting sick so I bundled up and drove her to town to the vet. Called them, told them I was on my way in. Just opened the door and toed the carrier in. They couldn't find anything. Animals....go figure. Sure hope Sammy is okay. At least you are able to get it taken care of immediately.

@Granny Hatchet. Good luck in KY. Prayers sent.

With three dogs, we may need to look into that. Got one to recommend?
Your vets office usually has fliers for them or recommendations. I have looked at them online and there are a few reputable ones. Like most insurances you get what you pay for.

My BIL had a sudden episode on Tuesday, and had to be shocked back to life over 10 times. He had not been diagnosed with any problem, and always seemed healthy and happy! His wife found him collapsed in the garage, and he was rushed to hospital. Doctors seem unsure why it happened. He has not become conscious since then. It's heartbreaking!
Oh no! That's terrifying! And still unconscious.. does he have any kids? 😢

Melissa is on her way to pick him up, he's awake. Nothing showed on the x-rays. By anesthetizing him they were able to open his mouth and get a good luck down his gullet, nothing to see there either. Hopefully he's okay.

You mean they don't know if he had a stroke or a heart attack? I'm so sorry this happened. :hugs

Poor Granny! No way I could do what you do, in the pain you're in. You are amazing. But I'm so sorry you're suffering like this. Sure hope somebody can do SOMETHING for you, "and that right quick!"
I'm not amazing, Im a huge crybaby. but.. I hope so too
They don't know what happened, even though they have done a bunch of imaging.
Did someone tell them they needed to actually LOOK at the imaging? These Drs. don't think about what they are putting the family thru.

They had me drop urine then the NP comes in saying " No wonder you don't feel good!" Bacteria, both alive and dead, blood and I don't remember the rest of it. so antibiotics(hope I don't get thrush again), peridium and voltaren for my knee plus ordered an x-ray for it.
Round a bout was closed so we went for an ice cream and had reopened by the time we finished. I'm just a little tired now.
