I don't think so.  Maybe a cat.  The dogs keep most of them off the property, but it could have happened while they were down at he house.  I'm still leaning toward death from natural causes.  He hasn't been crowing as much as usual. 

Maybe natural causes and the missing eye was an opportunistic jay or crow.
