Fell asleep and had a nightmare. :(

Also pretty sure I heard a baby crowing in the inside brooder. They started hatching last Wednesday. If it's the one I think it hatched first, a full two days early.

Crowing at a week old!

What!

DID you miss the news Camping...?
It's just after 5:30.

Do you ever have "scared" young kids that want to go home?
I would love to send my kids to your camp but I would want to stay to help you too!
(I would never be able to leave my youngest one anywhere over night--I would freak out...he is extra special!)

We have all showings set to record and DH has been watching from his phone all day. We won't miss it!

We have scared kids all the time! We also have a series of procedures to handle it.

First line of defense: one night camp. Itty bitty babies come with a grownup of their choosing for one night. Next age is two-night camp. Same stuff, but no grownup.

With homesick kids we first: try to distract them. Remind them of the VERY NEXT SUPER FUN activity. (Tomorrow we're going swimming! Tomorrow is archery!) Things like that. Second, we contact the parent and let them know what's up. (Your kid is a little homesick. Just letting you know.) Third: varies. If a kid is dead set on going home, then we let them go home. It's traumatizing for a kid to be in a place they can't leave. By letting them go home we change the mindset to "I wanted to go home and they let me. I can trust them to take care of me in the future."

Sometimes the parents 100% won't come. We just work with it the best we can. If it's a kid who has never gone to camp, we can pair them up with a veteran camper or a cit. Sometimes we give them a special booboo bear to take care of.

Calling home doesn't usually work (makes it worse) but emails work great!

DH has been working at camp since he was 17, missed only one year in there. I started at 15 but I missed a few years off and on. We've been in camping together since 2004 (missed one year in 2007). So we have lots of tricks. :D

I yah, I know all that, but it was going on 6pm for granny when she was talking about meeting the teacher. Leads me to believe it is a good teacher to put in so much time. Not all of them do. I used to teach middle school. Now I have gray hair!!

my 8th grade science teacher made a huge impression in my life.

Everyone always gave her such a hard time because she insisted on calling us Miss....or Mr..our last names.
The kids HATED it.

I tried to find this lady a few years back to tell her that i always think of her and some of the things she taught me, but I found an Obit!

I need the sticky strip for all our flies. They are horrible this year.

I had sticky strips hanging up all over the kitchen but they bugs were staying away from them.
Once I put on strip in the jar...it worked like magic!
