Dont they spend a couple of weeks collecting eggs first. I don't know. I haven't had a broody before.



they lay til they get enough but they dont actually start sitting them til they figure they have enough.   Its not good for them to sit for a long time . some people will let them be broody over and over and its hard on the hen. she suffers but and extra week once wont hurt if she is healthy to begin with.


My three broodies sat on air for at least two months. I don't recommend it. The BCM and HRIR both did fine. The cochin killed her babies. The BCM had a pretty susbstantial broody molt recently. The HRIR is still looking good! Her sister is my most recent broody, also did a great job. No fuss.

Now Lagertha is broody. I'm saving cochin eggs for her. :lol:
