Porter will be good if you bribe him. Maybe carrots? If they are like goats, a big no-no is touching or tugging on horns. Also not supposed to rub their foreheads. Turns them into butt heads!

Grew up with a breeding stallion on the farm. RESPECT is the word. He was actually better with us females than the mares. They would smoosh you against the wall if they were in a bad mood. My dad was the one who had to watch it around the stallion.


One more yak question. Do they moo or low or snort or anything? Guess I'm wondering how they yak it up!

yes Daddy Yuri with be going back to the farm until beth is done. Previous own said Porter likes his head/ scratched. treats, comes when called. DO NOT touch his horns. They are called the grunting ox. So I am guessing they grunt didn't hear anything from them today. Picture a couple grumpy old men sitting around visiting sort of.

I think he used alpha pellets for a "treat" I was wondering about slices of pumpkins that didn't get ripe enough for me to use. Porter was used/trained as a pack animal for the first 2 years of his life. so he is pretty tame. But he does seem protective of his harem. I know in Tibet and Mongolia that they do ride them, I however have no intention of riding Porter around. I would guess the cows are roughly 500 lbs and Porter 1000 to 1200 he can/could get up to 1800 latter in life.

so should i go to layer mash ? I am confused now. I thought if they had a little more protein it would balance the corn.

I use egg layer feed and oats. Plus kitchen and garden scraps. the occasional mouse and dead cat as well. Plus if I get my doe this fall whey will get what we don't take off the carcass . NEVER NEVER give deer meat or bones to dogs unless your sense of smell is totally gone. Dog deer farts is one of the nastiest odors I have ever smell.

I was telling a friend about them. She says that someone used to have them about 15 miles from here. She's going to find out if they still do. I want to see them if I can.
