Granny, do you have serious daytime predators? If not, you can set up an outdoor run using plastic fencing and bird netting for the top which will keep hawks and probably cats away. Won't work for anything larger, though. They can take turns getting outside time, and locked up tight at night. I raise curly leaf kale for them. They like it more than grass and it's easy to grow.

I do have day time predators. they picked of a LOT of my flock but i couldnt tell you what it was except neighbor behind me said there was a pack of coyotes and a bobcat in the woods separating our properties. seems odd to me they would both be there. the woods are long but not terribly deep. couple three hundred ft. maybe I like kale too ! not sure they would get any. lol i cant raise anything now. was wondering if i closed off half the run this spring if anything would grow fast over there to give them a treat when it was opened up?

Now that I've seen everything in the daylight, I could just cry.

The coop has been cleaned, I can tell, but they used pine straw instead of shavings. There's a big bag of shavings on the back porch, unopened. The yard was covered in moldy food scraps. The run was FILTHY and smelled awful. The feeders are all full of damp feed. Two of the sick girls have been sleeping underneath the roosts and are covered in poop.

There's just a lot of work to be done.

So I got in a cleaned a few things before the baby woke up. The pox appears to be all gone. And one of my baby pullets looks so much like a hen now! Here's a picture of her.

My sick two are bad off and I don't even know what to do with them. Considering culling.

Honestly, I don't even know. They are walking really low and crouched to the ground, like cats will do when they are in heat. I picked them up and squeezed around on them, but I can't tell if anything is wrong or not. I have a few videos of them.

That's the one you can see walking the best. I just have no clue. The other one has a runny nose and they both have a yucky eye. So rounds of warm fluids and tylan? Good long soaks, too.

Have they been wormed with Safeguard or Valbazen? If not, you could try that.

  • Safeguard liquid or paste dose to treat roundworms, cecal worms, gapeworms, capillary worms and possibly some species of tapeworms is 0.23ml per pound orally for *five* consecutive days.

  • Valbazen dose to treat roundworms, cecal worms, capillary worms and possibly some species of tapeworms is 0.08ml per pound once and repeat in ten days.

What does their poop look like?

I would *not* bathe them! Tylan or Baytril, sure, but no bathing! Have they been dusted for mites and lice?
