So  I just figured out my cost for keeping chickens the past 2 years.   Just feed, grit, and oyster shell for the adults only   about 375.00 a year.   Not to shabby and once all the free loaders are gone this fall things should bet better. 

Wow I don't know how that is possible? Tonight I purchased 4-50# bags of feed & 1 bag of grit and it cost me $79. This will last me about a month. At this price it would cost me $768 for the year just in feed. And that is figuring it at 15.99 a bag like I payed tonight, but at my local TSC it is 16.99 a bag. Right now I have 41 birds, on Nov. 12th I have 25 chicks coming.

Mutt, have you ever had any experience with Ridgebacks? We had a couple and a mix over the years. Too smart for their own good, but can't beat the lovely short coats!

not if it is all cash.   I get 1.50 for a dozen lg/ex lg      or  18 mediums      2.50 for jumbos (dozen)   and  1.00 for 18 diet eggs (smalls/peewees)

I might as well make a little cash. I guess just to the people I know. Some people's funny around here though. They'd probably want grocery store eggs. Probably think mine weren't safe lol. Idiots.

LOL up here farm eggs can NOT be white.  Then they think you are buying store eggs on sale and reselling them.   Works for me as white eggs can be hard to get/wash clean.

Same here, most people don't want white eggs or they think I'm reselling store bought eggs. I mix my cartons with a little bit of every color I have. Hubby & I live in an area where tourism is popular so I get $3 a dozen for the med.to almost large & $4 a doz for large to extra large. The little pullet eggs & Silkie eggs I sell for $2 a doz.

Sorry in advance for my words: I am a dog lover to the nth degree, but that would be the first and last time for me!!! That IS NOT housetraining. That is territorial MARKING! Pissing on the bed to claim it. That dog, knowing your situation, the other things you've mentioned would be banished from my house, at the pound or in a kennel. That's awful. Kill me now, but that's what I think. Way too many great dogs die waiting for a home for me to put up with a dog like her. Sorry.
