Welcome back sunset, dont hesitate to jump in any time. I'm the old & crazy chickenlady, but you can call me Lisa.
I have 1-leghorn, 3-wellies, 3-Isa browns, 2-rir, 5-ee's, 2-LH/RIR mixes, 3-BSL, 2-BR, 1-BO, 1-Sicilian Buttercup roo & 1 White Chantecler roo. These are all adults. Then I have 22 (4 are silkies just hatched in the past 2 days) barnyard mixes that are 6 wks, 4 wks, 2 days & 1 day old. So currently I have 48 chicks & 24 in the incubator due to hatch in 2 weeks. Most of the chicks are sold, just brooding them till spring for individuals. Sounds like you have a nice flock going yourself. It's amazing how chicken math adds up :)

I really like them. a lot ! my mothers name.

A beautiful name for sure. expresso make hot chocolate? ever make it with real cocoa ?

Did you mean the name Lola? I always start humming the Kinks tune when I call her. La-La-La-La-LOLA! She got the pretty name. The jubilee orp is Figgy Pudding and the cuckoo is Buster Posey (after baseball catcher extraordinaire for the SF Giants).

Here's a few pics of the bantams.

This is Mo, walking on tippy-toes, pretending he is not the smallest bird in the coop! Bunny is looking to see if I have treats.

Curly is the only other silkied Serama besides Mo.

Minnie Pearl (bantam cochin) with Serama friends.

See Mo on his toes? Wish his tail went up, but he's still cute.

Right now I have 10 broodies- the Silkie and 9 Seramas. Went from getting 6-7 eggs per day down to one. All of them are crammed into 3 nest boxes and poor Mo only has one little hen for company. The cochins hang with him too, but I'm not sure he thinks of them as real chickens!

Camping, my youngest lives in Mandeville. LA is a beautiful state and I wouldn't mind living there myself, but tornados and hurricanes are scary. Course we have our earthquakes and droughts here. Is there any perfect place to live, where every backyard has a big beautiful coop, no predictors, and beautiful chickens can be had or hatched easy? Sounds like you've got a nice flock ... Lucky girl.

Granny, saw your new bator... Wow!! I bet you'll be able to hatch those babies with that thing. It's almost enough to make me want one, but for now I'll live vicariously through all of you.

Lisa, thanks for the welcome back :)
Sorry about all of your babies not hatching but it sounds like you've got a lot of them anyway. Is it hard to keep up with all the details of what each age group needs, or is it like second nature? I'm proud of myself for keeping food, clean water, crunched shells and grit available... not to mention poo monitoring and coop/run cleaning. That seems like a lot at times, lol.

Wishing, love your pretty flock, and oh that lil roo is a heartbreaker! My BF in HS was named Lola so I'm fond of the name, too. It's actually on my potential name list (does anyone else have one of those?).

morning, working on first cup again. LOL the little speckled hen in the last picture is darling !! good looking flock. my mothers name was Lola and the song was, what ever Lola wants. she disliked it very much. sorry about the hatch. I have heard from Jer Sacks or however you spell his name that keeping serama eggs on their side and hand rolling is better then the turner. Sunset, I am very excited about the bator. maybe i will get somewhere this time. Watermelon, I am glad you are here as well.

Got a problem I'm not sure how to handle. One of my hens (Lovey, a marans and the largest chicken in my flock) doesn't like my rooster mating with other hens. Whenever she catches them in the act, she pecks the head of the hen that's penned down. I am pretty sure Lovey put a hole in the top of my first favorite hens head and I ended up losing her. Lucy was the top hen and a favorite of both large roosters, so Lovely had many opportunities to peck her. At first I blamed the roosters, and rehomed the ornerinest one. Then Sweetpea (my smallest hen) was scalped so I got rid of my other large rooster. Now I just have Barney my silkie roo left and Sweetpea is his go-to girl because the others out run or ignore him. I've caught lovey pecking sweet peas head several times, and im afraid she'll be hurt like Lucy was. Should I just try to rehome Barney? I only want a rooster for predictor protection, not for babies.

Sunset, as I have no chickens of my own yet I can't give you a personal experiance so, I found somthing from Cafarmgirl that might help.

"remove the hen doing the damage. She must still be pecking if you have another injured bird. Keep her out a good week and if she starts up again when you put her back you will have to decide if you are going to keep her. I don't keep birds with this habit because very often they never get over it and sometimes they get other birds in the flock going as well. It's a nasty habit you don't want to get out of hand."

Get her a pair of pinless peepers. She won't be able to zero in on a spot to deliver a nasty peck.
