 do for everything BUT   molasses cookies  have to use Crisco nothing else works or tastes quite right.     One year I forgot the soda  (triple batch of course) ended up with hockey pucks  ,  used then for dog treats.  why because I am/was to cheap to throw the batter out.

That's not being cheap that's being a good steward of your resources!!!!
