Moving the tree could be done, a big under taking. Moving a tree in the fall after leaves have fallen off, and you have severely pruned the tree, will cause the least amount of stress on the tree. This will give the tree all winter to grow roots instead of leaves, flowers and branches.

Well I have already severely pruned it. I wanted to move it now before it grew anymore. NS it is dormant right now. You think I should wait? I hate for it to get any bigger. Is about six or seven feet now after pruning.

I agree, 2 yrs. would not be impossible though. you are supposed to dig around as far as the branches reach out. If you have it in some shade that would explain the extra growth and maybe less root system.

Yea, I forgot you might need to have a front end loader to relocate it. Moving the tree in the spring means the tree will be growing roots, leaves, blooms and branches all at the same time. That will be a HUGE stress on the tree.

Suzierd, isnt your ground frozen? you can also try to move it just before spring growth starts. I move mine all yr. even in hot summer but i use gallon milk jugs poke a hole , fill with cool water and set them around the tree . would also consider root stimulater. do you have any willow trees close by that you could snip some branches from?
