I'm here Red, just trying to get caught up after having the little ones this weekend. They are such a blessing but "oh boy howdy they are a handful" just way more energy than this Nana has :gig

Good afternoon everyone!

It's pouring here and there's run off in the ditches for the first time in about a year! Good thing! Have to go back into town later for an appointment, groceries, and pick up Scooter. I will try to catch up tonight, when most of you are heading off to bed, so I will say sweet dreams now! Big hugs to everyone!

Granny sorry to hear that the physco cat destroyed your beautiful Christmas tree & got everything wet. Sometimes animals can be a real PITA. My 2 broodys hatched a 100% this weekend. Of course the one only had one egg, but Fiona hatched all 6 of hers. In fact she is raising 7 chicks because sister broody decided to be physco momma & attacked Fiona, taking all her chicks. Had to hurry and make a broody & baby shelter in the coop yesterday & separate them. Then broody #2 egg hatched & today when the chick was wanting to get out from under her she went crazy. I have removed the one chick & gave it to Fiona. I have place the physco Silkie in with my six week old teenagers. She will remain there until the Silkie chicks get bigger.

Pretty well! I looks like a warm and muggy Christmas week here. How about you?

yep, eggzactly.

oh well, nothing beats a Texas Christmas, wearing flip flops and shorts.
Hi Bert, would love a Texas Christmas. We had 3 days of cold & snow over the weekend, but today we are back to cold & raining. My chicken runs are beyond repair. I would have to have dump truck loads of wood shavings to fix the mess of it raining just about everyday for 2 weeks. On top of it my sand on the coop floors are starting to stink with all this rain, grr... Cant I have my cake & eat it too low. I will take a colder temp, just below freezing, poop sickles are the best for scooping & just a dusting of snow for Christmas. Not asking for much at all :gig

I thought you had the grandkids. Did the last egg hatch?
I did all weekend, gd is still here but boys went home last night. The last egg did hatch. I had to help it though, went out to check on momma & babies that morning & to pull the egg so momma would show her young ones how to eat. When I picked up the egg it was pipped on one side but looked really dry. Started breaking the top of the shell away, thinking the chick hadn't made it. But it started faintly peeping. The membrane was shrink wrapped to it. All veining was gone. Pulled back the membrane & it hatched. Of course momma & babies were feeding by this point, so I stuck it under broody sister who was still sitting on her one egg until it dried & starting moving around. Then I put it back with Fiona. Had camera on the other broody to see when her egg hatched & this morning I noticed a light colored chick peek out from broody #2 & a black one. The black one was the one I was expecting, but somehow in the confusion of her stealing Fiona's babies she managed to keep one tucked up under her wing or something. So she had her chick & Fiona's chick. They were ready to be out from under her & eat but she spazzed out & wouldn't let them. I went out & took FF out to them. Momma jumped off the nest & started eating, but didn't call the chicks to the food. I had to take them out of the nest box & put them by her. She never tried to show them how to eat or anything. When I reached around her to clean the poop out of the nest box she went bazurk & ran back to the nest box leaving the babies. They peeped & peeped, but she wouldn't get of the nest, like she thought she was still sitting on eggs. I cleaned the coop & when I was done & she still hadnt went out to sit on them or to try to show them the way back to the nest box. I removed them & put them with Fiona, she took them in without any problem. I wasn't about to sacrifice them for a crappy momma.
