Bert, you are lucky. I have a hen that hasn't laid for over 2 years. She is my son's favorite, though, his "therapy chicken" that will sit in his lap and and snuggle.

Granny, that's great news that no other birds are having problems! Well, except for Mr. Lakenvelder. Who beat him up?

Camping, how's your sick chicken. Any luck clearing the eye?

Wishing, I do have four hands right now and haven't played at all this winter.

I'm trying to decide if I should give them a chance to lay, once the days get longer, or if I should just send them to the preserve

Preliminary attempt was unsuccessful. I asked DH to pick up an Xacto knife and he got all squeamish. :/

I think the hens ganged up on him. At least they were getting a bite of that blood when I seen them. I dont know why I didnt just put him down. he cant go back there so I dont have a spot for him now.

How old are they? My New Hamp was hatched in 2012, and she still produces really well. She did have a longer break this fall after a really hard molt. All of them had a really hard molt in the fall. First time for all of them.

They are probably 4 to 5 years old.

They are buff Orpington. I had also considered, keeping a couple on the off chance that they would go broody.

Makes you wonder if there's not something wrong with him. He should be able to avoid problems like that.
