the labs are closed today, no deaths today. i found some oxy, in my supplys but its not in my book so i dont know what i used it for.  or when. or what its even good for.  its a powder, guess i can start looking back ,i should find it. lol suzierd, any more babies?  my dog is sad, moping around the house today, keeps looking to the front door. i slept most of the day away and as soon as i went out to feed and water we got a storm. i am soaked but it felt good to me. im never gonna get this grass mowed. chickens dont seem to mind

Never heard of Oxine in a powder. Mine is liquid and has AH on it for animal health.

I don't activate mine I read some people do Ive also read its dangerous to pets to activate so I don't do it.
I had two babies hatch that I put out with a broody hen the next morning they are doing great. Three eggs left I don't think the y will hatch but I'll leave them in for awhile. These eggs were left over from some I let the hens have to hatch. Past a week since the first chicks hatched and the hens kept leaving them to go cold and kicking them around so I took them out and put the in a old home made incubator and to my surprise two hatched. I had hen go broody about five days ago so I stuck them under her and she's thrilled to have them and I'm thrilled I don't have to have house chickens :D
Here they are before I took them out.

sorry your Dog is feeling sad its a hard adjustment for you both. Sounds like the one got a great home, to bad she didn't take both.

I totally agree with Eggcessive on the necropsy it would be nice to know but that's a lot of money and you do what you think is best. If you feel pretty sure what it is after talking to the doc you might want to go ahead and just get them on the Denagard. From what I'm reading it sound like once they are on the Denagard for awhile and they are acting healthy not showing anymore symptoms it keeps them from spreading it. Now I don't now if that's full proof but I would wait till you have it under control to put them around the Ginny's and of course you will have to keep up the preventive. Do you think you have some chickens that haven't been exposed? I would talk to the doctor about them being around the other chickens once on the Denagard for awhile. Let us know what he says, have a good day.

the oxi i have is another antibiotic, tetracycline. i just wonder how long it would take me to learn the necropsy and do some of it myself? not the blood work of course. this illness is first presenting with pink eye, then goes to swollen, shut and labored breathing. i have one out there that has been like this for a week now without death. i have had some recuperate on their own and others gone the next day. some in the same coop healthy with no signs and others at death door. here lately they have been doing more recuperating then dying. with no meds. i am going to talk to the dr. and i may consider culling the whole flock . but if denaguard will keep it at bay and isnt a small fortune , (i havent checked it yet) then i will consider keeping them. i do think about risks to others like when i go to tsc and forgot to change my shoes. i only seen the bubbles in one chicks eye. i seen white matter in another.just the eye is bulging. love the reading eggsessive, thank you.

suzeird, your chicks are beautiful !!! where did you buy the oxine?

Best of Luck with your decisions Granny I know it's not easy I would be a wreck. I bought my Oxine at www.amazon.com
I only use 1/8 tea per Gallon of water, last a long time.

I personally would not mention bird flu just to get something done, it would cause a lot of undue attention to your flock and you have enough to deal with right now.
Has anyone ever actually done this? What was the outcome?
This was a BYCer that got in touch with her state vet's office in some northeastern state, and they told her all anyone had to do was to mention bird flu, and the state would do it for no cost. Who knows if that would work or not, this is just an anecdote.

just got back from dr. missed the call but, he left a message with his home # on it and asked me to call after 8. how sweet is that? as far as mentioning bird flu, i dont know what they have. for all i know it is the flu. ol granny likes attention any way. dr. visit was a waste, said he wouldnt do anything for my husband without the other hospitals reports ,so back next week. he now has appt. on the 9,10 11th.

mycoplasma gallisepticum. dr. diagnoses. no necropsy needed. dont cull the flock , doubts i could buy mg free birds because they build resistance.and its way more common then i would think. if i want to go to the swaps then this is what i will deal with. tylan is best for it. but could of used the oxytetracycline. not ms , no stink

Geesh. I'm never going to a swap. I know there are plenty of other ways for a flock to get it, but what a disaster waiting to happen.

That's great news you don't need to cull and can use the meds on hand.

I know it's not over for you, but at least you have a solid starting point. That's something to take heart in.
