ya, I would have my hands right in there . LOL They have blood veins even after they do the external pip.  people helping to soon is usally why they die. they bleed out. I try to keep in mind , If they have external pip they are breathing and they have 3 days worth of food attached to their belly so its best to wait.

Its attached to the membrane and should come off when it hatches. sometimes it will pull the membrane out and still be attached. If that were to happen you will need to cut it yourself. dont happen very often but you should know how just in case.

you will look for the clearest and thinnest part close to the chick. sterilize scissors and cut. then put some antibiotic on the navel without the pain reliever . If it is bleeding use corn starch or a cold wet paper towel . have that on the ready just in case. you dont want to chill the chick so the paper towel will just touch the navel no where else. It works pretty quick .

Well. I did take her eggs away today. She's up on the roost tonight...we'll see if we can break her broody cycle or if I let magic happen.
