Granny, look for grain free dog food. That is all I feed now. Grains are not good for dogs. My Maltese has stopped tearing (white dogs always get that red eye tear staining) he doesn't lick and chew on his feet or other parts of his body and he feels great. They say to mix it slowly only so you don't upset the digestive tract. But it won't kill them if this is all you have and just give it to them without any mixing. I had to do that before with a puppy and he lived thru it. LOL

ok, i probably shouldnt say it but when it comes to my head, it usually comes out my mouth. i cleaned all the poopy butts ,was it yesterday? anyway the brooder was a little past due so after i cleaned it i hear tap, tap, tap. i thought what? the poor little things had poop balls on their feet ! they are natural born tap dancers. i just boxed them up and brought them in the house, got a cup of warm water and a roll of paper towels. the funny thing is, every time i cleaned one of their feet , their butt holes kept slamming shut ! is this normal or did they remember me??? i dont think its supposed to be this hard.

Pahahaha. Sigh.
I had an itchy dog. Fed her rice based feeds and ones with lots of oil. The one I use now has green lipped mussel, omega 3.
Crap dog food sucks.

cheap dog food is crap. and the better stuff is so expensive ! the cats found the new dog food last night. it didnt agree with them either.

TSC carries 4-Health. It is a grain free dog food that is fairly economical. My poor little minpin has done wonderfully with it. She has severe allergies to all kinds of things. She used to be almost bald with stuff running out of her ears and her toes raw and oozing. Now she is ALL healed up. Took about 2 months.

Say granny silly question is it the chicks you hatched yourself or the store bought one with the pasty butt??

My first batch of chick I got I put in a brooder with pine shavings and a lot ended up with pasty butt and turd tap shoes. Started using the apple cider vinegar and they were improving and then the dogs broke in and play pounce the chirpy/squeaky toys. Got all 100 chicks with out knocking over any feeders/ waters or moving the heat lamps. Second and third batched of chicks I put down cheap walmart potting soil the sanitized stuff. over that I laid out layers of white tissue paper. Put the cider vinegar in the water for the first week, DID NOT loose a chick or have any cases of pasty butt. I think the silly chicks peck and try to eat any and everything including the pine shavings which in my opinion causes or at least promotes pasty butt. I know that our chicks here in the store are kept on pine shavings. I personally would be afraid of getting "store" chicks because god only know how many time little kids have picked them up and dropped or hugged or squeezed them and would also be worried about them bring in some kind of illness to the flock.

Try feeding your UN friendly dog food to your adult chickens. At least then you don't have to store the feed or throw out the money your spent. I do that with the dog food that guests leave here at the motel. Haven't lost a hen yet.
