I had problems with the needles too. Which surprised me sinces I have been giving shots to pets and livestock shots for 30 years. My mom hsndled all of that. I mostly took care of making sure she took care of herself while she took care of him. While she slept I took care of my brother. Kind of burning the candle at both ends. I literally slept on a cot beside his bed the last week.

i am so sorry. i too lost a sister and it sure did something to us, especially mom.

Hi Granny...good that your mom is home. Hospitals are no place to be. She will feel so much better in her own home than in some loud sterile room.

And I thought the same thing, that I have given shots to so many birds and pets, but as Enola says, I guess it is different with humans! You will get the hang of it eventually. Maybe when the nurse comes tomorrow she can show you how it is done.

And about the chicks that didn't come...the Sumatra's. LOVE those birds!! I want some of those really badly. They look like baby Crows!!!

i have a white bantam silkie hen thats been hanging by herself and last night i saw she was kinda weak looking . when i picked her up, i was shocked. she has nothing but skin over bone. nothing in the crop, i felt no gristle, nothing. i checked her whole body. i stood in that run and cried like a baby. they have been wormed, they have the best food i can find. its terrible. she has no symptoms of a cold. i am going to cage her and see what if anything she is eating. i will add some rooster booster to the water. any other suggestions?

i just went for a second look and i didnt cage her. she was eating and drinking and had food in the crop. i think i did this once before. and that is giving them a lot of corn and not much crumbles. i swapped it around this morning. time will tell i guess.

How old is this hen Granny? If she is an older hen, they can develop reproductive cancer which will have them losing weight. Don't feel bad Granny, as I am sure this is nothing you did or didn't do.

No, I wouldn't put her down unless she is suffering. And yes, what did you worm with? You said something a while back about ivermectin...that stuff is not all that effective on internal parasites.
