Yes I rinse the bleach water off. You can take a damp/wet rag and just swab the top of the incubator. You are right, you can not soak the top of the incubator.

How in the heck did he get the TOP of the incubator dirty?????

mrsc, what little bit of family i have left, the most of them live in Fl. Springhill and tampa area. i have a sister that lives just down the road from that place everyone wants chickens and eggs from. my daughter is N.C. and a few in MI. since mom is gone i dont look for any of them to come visit any more. maybe they will surprise me but i doubt it.

I'm just across the bay from Tampa and Springhill is about 45 minutes north. Sometimes family can surprise and usually at the most inopportune moments. I have a brother just this side of Orlando that I'm very close to and my daughter up in the panhandle near Pensacola and my son's in New Orleans. She's been stationed there for 6-7 years. Only time in her military career (almost 23 yrs) we've been close enough to visit regularly. Younger brother lives in Huntsville, AL. A couple of years ago my older brother and I went to visit him - had planned and told him when, etc. - and the day we got there, he left to go visit someone in Nashville.

Yep, that makes me the middle child. LOL Cousins scattered over Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico but I'm not especially close to any of them.

I'm not familiar with any place to get chickens, but would LOVE to know where around here, even Tampa or Springhill. Got mine from a lady not far from my house but her conditions are less than desirable and she always smells like she's never had a regular relationship with soap and water. She hatches other people's eggs so I was ok getting day olds from her knowing they weren't from her chickens.

I hope your foot is improving!

It's such a shame when someone says they are going to do something like taking care of your chickens and then they don't and don't even bother to tell you that they're not.

we didnt have any sun so i hooked it up and got temp. stable and now the sun is shining. lol it looked to be some type of egg and i am guessing roach. never again. i scrubbed it w/ dial and then the bleach. i did rinse it but it still has a faint odor. mrsc, i think it is called springhill conservatory but not sure. i do know it is on or very close to Barclay ave. I am a little disappointed about the seramas and eggs. they are in the mail but not the ones i wanted. the roo looked like a calico cat and i asked him if they were too old to breed because they are 2 yrs. so instead he sent a gold and a silver Colombian pr. he says the roo is a b and the hen is too small to keep her leg band on. they are 6 months and she is just starting to lay very tiny eggs so that means they probably wont hatch. i dont know what they look like i cant find a pic. he also said he sent 6 eggs. not good odds.

usps tracking says they havent moved yet. (sigh) i cant take the stress ! lol

soo, i asked my husband to fry some bacon for sandwichs for dinner. in typical male fashion he goes in the kitchen, gets the skillet and because the handle moved he is off and running for that "perfect" tool to git-er-done. People, he was gone for 45 min. ! i have been using that thing like that for a couple yrs. never bothered me. then he tried to separate the bacon. it sounded like ww3 in there. i think i learned a new word today. so i did that part for him. then the heat was too high and no grease in the bottom. so he is getting popped . I hate to see a grown man cry. i turned the heat down and added some oil. I made the toast, i sliced the tomato, i put the sandwich together and made it stick w/ some mayo. I made the mistake of asking for a cup of coffee. he said, " i just cooked dinner " .

I told him, and it was good too honey.

the babies made it in one piece !! they are so small the pictures didnt prepare me for them. one is white with black and the other is gold w/ black. also 9 eggs. not sure what i should be looking for but the eggs look just like the ones i bring in the house when i candle them. a whole lot smaller. lol

something must of got in the coop yesterday. the run that is. lost one of the egyption fayoumas and the only crested cream legbar hen i kept. i found a hole about 1in. where something had dug under the skirt and a few holes in the chickens. i am thinking rat? tiny hole about half in. plus little feathers around each one. 2 different places in the same run. AND, thats not enough, AND, the 2 leghorns i have recently added and the other fayouma is very skinny with nasty butt. AND, my little roo has the leg mites still. they are pretty bad too. looks painful for him. i have treated this on him some. not enough i see. so, i have safe-guard and no instructions. i wrote instructions for wrong meds. the coop was dusted too. HELP PLEASE

Hallelujah, they made it! Hope you can get some pictures for us. Can't help with incubating (although I have 3 broodies right now), but the air sacs seem pretty fragile from what I've experienced with ours. Several had lobed looking air sacs when I candled at 10 days. Not shipped, but probably get messed up when my youngest races down to the house with them in his pocket. Ahhh, boys.

I would think just incubate normally, but maybe limit the handling.
