Roost put a lid loosely on the ff container and it should be fine for 2 days. I only stir mine every other day. I am going to start fermenting the feed as well as wheat hoping to cut back on cost of feed.
I am going to have to cut back on free range time. My favorite 19 week old cockeriel, Pepper, was killed today by a dog that followed runners down our road. Was thinking he would be the one I breed my BRs to to get the lemon bar chickens next spring. He is the only one of 12 cockeriels I named. He followede around the yard and stayed close by when I sat under the pear tree. I could even id him by the sounds he made. Hope the dog doesn t come back because I have a shotgun shell with his name on it. Just saying

Thanks Jane. So sorry to hear about your roo. It's hard when you are attached to an animal and loose them. I have a favorite hen that I worry about all the time. I worry about them all but she's attached to me as much as I am to her. Seems like stuff like this always happens to your favorites.

very sorry Jane

Its true what Red says, always the favorite. I hope you have a back up roo ?

4 roos and 3 laying hens lost to predatorsin a year is getting to be a bit much. I may have to fence in the small pasture with chicken wire and let them free range there. Dh has already suggested this and I could put a door at back of coop for getting into pasture. Would be better for dogs but more accessible to eagles and hawks.

bird netting on top works pretty good. so does a solar light at night like an "eye" of a predator. mans Pee poured out around the coop . these are just a few.
