Camping was it me and you discussing putting the silkie and chick together or wishing?
Me. Are they still happy together? If you see them snuggle together, you've got it made. The Silkie may not like the little one trying to get under her, which I'm sure it will try to do, so watch out for that. Also, the Silkie may be too warm under the heat lamp, but the little needs the heat, so watch out for that too.

I hope it works out.

Won't it be funny if your Silkie turns out to be a cockerel?

Sorry, had to drive over the hill to pick up my younger son.  Not quite 30 min round trip.  Home now, but it's time to get dinner started!

Yes, and worrying about Mike means worrying about Enola.  Hope everything's okay.

I am going to ignore the rest of the site so you guys won't have to worry any more. Thanks to everyone that worried about Mike & I over the last couple of weeks. It is looking like he will have to go to the ER in the morning if I can't get him to eat something.

It was "clean out the kitchen" day here in preparation for all the yummy food this week -- made the chickens a treat. Found an expired graham crust in the cupboard so I tossed in what was left of a bag of dried meal worms, a handful of cat kibble that had gotten spilled in the feed storage cupboard and a partial jar of applesauce from the refrigerator. They also had a side of old tomatoes and some chopped up pork chop. It was perfect timing because DD had texted me a request for a pie recipe for the "friendsgiving" she and her roomies are hosting tomorrow, so I sent her this picture:
OMG that is disgusting!

Too cute. They're eating side by side. The chick is following the silkie around and you know how they wipe their beaks to get them clean? The silkie done it and then the chick done it lol. This is great!

Oh so sorry Enola, hope he gets better soon. What is causing the lack of appetite?

That's what imprinting is. The chicks brains are wired to copy what they see. The broodies make a special "this is good food!" noise that the little ones respond to also. I've taught chicks what is good to eat by making that noise and tapping my finger like a beak!

I taught these guys to eat aphids off some kale. Yummy!!!!
