Yeah, it aint like it used to be, and I would much rather read from a book than on a screen, but here's the deal. This high school, while it is a public school, is kind of a charter school, very different from regular high school. It's a STEM school (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics focus), located on the campus of the local state university, and my kiddo had to apply and be tested to get accepted. He calls it a nerd school and it really loving it since there are almost no discipline problems. I think it is expected that kids have access to the internet these days. Not sure what they would do if someone did not have access, but I'm sure they would figure something out. Heck, kids started computer classes and keyboarding in first grade, so an online text book is not such an alien concept. Even in the regular high school, my older son has to submit all his papers online. I hate it, but they've never done it differently. Tax dollars are paying for 4 years of project based engineering classes and advanced math, and if he plays his cards right, he will graduate high school with at least a semester of college credits. So it's a trade off. Geometry teacher is excellent. Spanish teacher is a joke. Trade off again.
