Pennsylvania Farm Show blue ribbon whoopie pie RECIPE!

Bakers from around the state competed in the first-ever Pennsylvania's Greatest Whoopie Pie Contest. Altogether there were 41 entries in the contest sponsored by Good Foods Inc. of Honey Brook. whoopie pies originated in Pennsylvania, where Amish women baked them and put them in farmers' or schoolchildrens' lunches. Those who found them in their lunch pails would shout, "Whoopie!"

Chocolate Peanut Butter Whoopie Pies
Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Filling:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine first five ingredients and set aside. Beat together butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, blending well as after each addition. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Mix well. Add dry ingredients, blending until just combined. Grease cookie sheets. Scoop 1 ounce of batter and drop onto pans. Bake 12 minutes, then allow 5 minutes for cooling before removing from pans.
For filling, beat butter until smooth. Blend in sugar until well incorporated. Add vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Assemble whoopie pies by placing heaping spoonful of filling on one side and sandwiching other side onto it.

Amish friend gave me some of those . not PB. just plain. I didnt like them but Tom and Robert did. I think she just didnt make them very good. LOL I used to have them make me sponge cake and it was loaded with chocolate chips. that was yummy.

No amish here.. we have kinda strange pentacostal people around, but they keep to them selves... but make a native friend and you will have the best fried bread and smoked salmon around!!!!!
 
With feed costs and everything else 5 bux is what is fair to make a small profit
We don't get the feed for what these big layer houses do
I dont make a profit but it helps pay for the feed.. but also, I am of an old school thought, all my birds get my left overs and kitchen scraps.. lowers the bill a little.
