I dont understand your coop. If they need to get that high for the nest then what is the bottom half ? And what kind of laying hens ?

The bottom half is storage. I have an alfalfa bale there, rice hulls and pine bedding. They like the cinder blocks. Ramp all the way to the ground took up too much space. They fly up and down pretty easily anyway.

Laying hens are hatchery assortment (1 each EE, New Hamp, SLWyandotte, Welsummer, Buff Orp) and from breeders (2 Orps, 1 Marans, 1 Ameraucanas).
