I am so upset. I had to have Lilac, my 11 month old siamese kitten to sleep. She had FIP. No cure and the vet said no amount of money would have saved her. I owe $600. The house is so quiet and I don't have to hide pencils now. I miss my kitty! :( :(

Imperfections can arise in the pure breed birds, just like any species of animal with a standard. The difference is we can't spay/neuter and sell "pet" quality birds.

It seems to me like the old quandary with heritage vs. hatchery standards. Hatchery speckled sussex do not have the same spangling or body type as the well-bred birds. They don't carry the same price stickers, either.

I don't see an issue with "homestead" quality birds so long as the buyer understands that's what they're getting. Until there is a written SOP I'm not going to cull for gray tongues, white toenails, or beak tips. If I did, I wouldn't have anything left.

I thought his biggest issues were with the ayam cemanis?
indeed just as throwbacks can produce solid blacks, eventually. Understanding and conveying to others they are homestead birds is half the battle. That said people can still do what they will with what they have. Our friends issue was with the cemani, which fetch a higher dollar sign and give people that much more reason to sell "culls" as the real deal. This same idea can be applied to my gamefowl, which are worth quite a bit to the right person. However often there are more washed out versions of these game being sold as "true game" and rebred and sold which further continues the problem. I can certainly understand not culling half your flock and am glad you see the difference within the breed.
