I had red mites in the pen in the garage. It has a wooden frame around the base to keep shavings in, vinyl floor and wire sides. Eggs hatched out a year after chicks were gone and the whole thing had been taken apart and sprayed with orange oil mite killer and coated with DE.  Ha.  Took it apart again and sprayed everything with strong bleach water. Cage was empty for a year, and mites hatched out again!    I got flea spray with permethrin. That's the only thing that killed them off. 


If you think they are mites, check the hen around her vent.  It will be hard to see on her dark skin.  Maybe a flashlight? Will she bite you?

She's bitten me lots of times, but she doesn't latch on so it's not that bad. Could I check Ragnar instead? He sleeps right beside her every night, even since she's been broody. He presses up against the box. It's so romantic.

WELL I got my fingers pecked good and I didn't see any mites on the one egg I found, BUT there was a zipper!! e

Well, there was a crisis at the house today!!!! Megan ordered pizza for lunch and the delivery boy couldn't find the house because there were no numbers on the house.....

So Ryan and I go to walmart to buy house numbers...... Grandma forgot to ask him if he had to pee....... So he is looking at tools and forgets, and pees his pants....... For sooooo long I have been saying "piss on you are walmart!"

It finally happened!

Doesn't take much to entertain me, does it?????

So Ryan and I go to walmart to buy house numbers...... Grandma forgot to ask him if he had to pee....... So he is looking at tools and forgets, and pees his pants....... For sooooo long I have been saying "piss on you are walmart!"

It finally happened!

Come on little inkies! Well it won't be long until she's up and around, so you can check then. They are more vulnerable to mites when sitting because, you know, they sit so much. My broody Seramas got them but not the rooster and not the one hen in the corner of the coop. Mites can kill chicks quickly, so check for signs, but the bugs you showed don't look like mites to me. Lice maybe, but I've never seen those in person.
